I appreciate the Home Depot guy for being so helpful, but is it wrong to feel insulted when he gives me advice that I know he wouldn't give to a guy? Should I go in wearing my hardhat or boots or something? Okay, here's the scenario: a lightswitch in my bedroom controls the power to an outlet because I have no overhead lighting. Well, it used to control it - now it doesn't do anything. I tried replacing the switch and that didn't work, so Uncle Lester suggested it might be the receptacle. I'm fair game for suggestions that only cost me $2, so off I go to Home Depot. I was thinking there might be a special receptacle I would need, so I ask the curly-haired young man (I can say that because I'm older than he is) which one I need. He says that they are all the same, you just need to get the right amperage and shows me where I would find that out. This, I am fine with, mainly because I asked him about the amperage. He then reminds me to turn the circuit breaker off before I do this (uh, DUH!) and if I want to test and see if the wires are hot not to grab on to it with my palm but touch it to the back of my hand so my hand doesn't clench onto the wire (double DUH!). First of all, who goes and grabs wires to see if they're hot? Okay, middle school guys but who besides them? I can't be too mad because females on the whole aren't experienced in these things, but STILL! I need to wear my construction clothes next time.
